Insider cools Coby White-to-Timberwolves buzz amid trade speculation
The Coby White rumors tied to the Minnesota Timberwolves were cooled by insider Jon Krawczynski, who dismissed reports that emerged earlier in the week. His response followed a Thursday report that suggested Minnesota had explored the Chicago Bulls guard as it looked for backcourt options.
The report suggested Minnesota had held preliminary talks with Chicago, positioning White as a possible answer to the team’s ongoing search for a secondary ball-handler. The 25-year-old has opened the 2025–26 season playing well, averaging 22.1 points, 5.4 assists and 2.7 rebounds while shooting 43.1 percent from the field over seven games. That level of production, paired with an expiring contract, has kept White in early trade conversations as the Bulls work through a 9–14 start.
“I can tell you that there is absolutely nothing cooking there right now. Could that change down the road? Maybe. He’s certainly a name to watch. But nothing percolating yet,” Krawczynski responded to the rumor directly on X (formerly Twitter), after a fan asked what a potential deal with Chicago could involve.
Is Coby White joining the Timberwolves?

Krawczynski’s comment raised questions about whether Minnesota has made any formal inquiry, pushing back on the earlier report and suggesting the team is not actively involved in talks regarding White at this point in the season.
Minnesota’s backcourt has come under scrutiny as veteran Mike Conley’s production has dipped and young guard Rob Dillingham has yet to find consistency. The 38-year-old Conley is averaging 5.3 points and 3.2 assists in limited minutes, while Dillingham has battled efficiency issues off the bench. Those factors initially made reports linking the Timberwolves to outside options such as Coby White seem more believable.

White’s status in Chicago remains unsettled. He is in the final year of a three year, $36 million deal and is set to reach unrestricted free agency this summer. His strong early play has raised his value around the league, but the Bulls have been hesitant to consider offers as they continue assessing the roster during their current struggles.
As the trade market takes shape ahead of February, both sides could revisit talks, but for now Minnesota’s connection to the Coby White rumor seems limited.
