Chicago Cubs may target this right-handed reliever in MLB free agency

The Chicago Cubs could target Seranthony Dominguez
The Chicago Cubs are still searching for back-end bullpen help, and there are names available to sign. MLB’s David Adler recently wrote an article addressing this and listed players the team can target. One name he mentions is Seranthony Dominguez and how he brings a different look than the team’s other bullpen arms.
“Dominguez was a key piece of the Blue Jays’ bullpen on their run to Game 7 of the World Series, and he’s been a late-inning reliever on four straight postseason teams (Orioles in 2024 and Phillies in 2022-23 as well). He’s also the last free-agent reliever who posted both a 30%-plus strikeout rate and swing-and-miss rate in 2025. And Dominguez has something important that Maton and Milner don’t: a big fastball. His heater averaged 97.7 mph last season, ranking in the top 6% of MLB pitchers. That would make the 31-year-old right-hander a suitable replacement for Keller, who also throws 97-plus.”
Seranthony Dominguez had a strong season between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays in 2025. He finished with a 3.16 ERA and a 131 ERA+. However, he led all of Major League Baseball with 12 wild pitches, so he could lose control of his pitches. Dominguez has outstanding putaway stuff with 79 strikeouts in 62.2 innings, but his 11:10 walk-to-strikeout ratio in the playoffs made it difficult. Perhaps with the Chicago Cubs, he can figure out his command issues and step up to the next level.
