OTL: Local Lamar Jackson Hit Piece Goes National

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, Flock, and shoutout to people who called in sick today at work due to the weird timing of Christmas on a Thursday this year.

While most NFL Fans got to enjoy their holiday sharing gifts over social media and watching mediocre football, the flock unfortunately had to wrangle with another hit piece released by the Baltimore Sun about Lamar Jackson, and it was a familiar face behind the piece…

I can’t believe we have to talk about this, but here we are. No, I don’t think Lamar playing video games all night and apparently sleeping through a couple of meetings at some point in the last eight years is this world-breaking deal. The Baltimore Ravens have a billion problems, and Lamar Jackson is nowhere near the top of the list.

This should be more of a local thing, where we all sit back and laugh at Preston, but unfortunately, other bigger media outlets picked it up and are running with it. There truly is no peace with this organization, is there? We can’t just have a disappointing season laying in pieces and leave it at that, can we? Of course, the media has to make this season of disappointment even worse. Preston is now in my mind on the JLC level of the unbearable Baltimore journalism scale. The dude is a total shame who has hated Jackson since he was drafted and just can’t wait to get his grubby hands on another hit piece just to ruin our Christmas.

That’s not even getting into the skeletons in Preston’s closet, which include criticizing the Ed Reed pick, or when he tried to pit Brian Billick and Ray Lewis against each other and made Ray look like the enemy when Billick was the issue (hey, does that sound familiar?).

The only reason this is even making waves is that the Ravens are a bad team:

This is the ultimate gotcha moment when it comes to this useless drama created by Preston. If this has been happening for years, then why is it such a big issue now? It’s just because the Ravens are bad now that stories like this get this type of traction.

We should all just ignore this and focus on what little positive we have left, specifically the young players playing well:

Through 15 weeks, Mike Green ranks among rookies:

Pressures – 4th (31, behind Carter, Pearce, Ezieraku)
Pass rush win rate – 8th (9.9%)
PRP (efficiency) – 10th

Run stops – t3rd (13)
Missed tackles – 2nd (2 – 7.1%)

Penalties – t1st (0)

In context, pretty pretty pretty solid.

Mike Green has not had the year we all wanted him to have. He has had a tough time generating power against NFL-caliber tackles and using his speed to the fullest. However, he has clearly improved over the year, and with the uncertainty of this franchise going forward, we need to look for small wins, and Green turning into a solid player would be a massive step.

This year has been challenging for us, Flock. Add up all of these issues on the field to now, and Preston’s shenanigans, and it all just stinks. In times of trouble, however, we need to look for small victories like Green playing well or Emery Jones improving. Especially with Lamar probably out this week, this season is over, and it was a waste. Let’s appreciate small victories and block out the noise.
