Bears fans should be buzzing over latest Maxx Crosby trade update

Could the Chicago Bears actually swing a trade for Las Vegas Raiders superstar Maxx Crosby this offseason? Everyone knows the Bears need another pass rusher, and Crosby could ultimately be the best one available in the coming months.

Of course, should the Raiders place Crosby on the trade block, there would be no shortage of suitors for the five-time Pro Bowler, who isn’t exactly at peace with Las Vegas after the team decided to shut him down for the final two games of the season.

One of the top potential landing spots for Crosby is the San Francisco 49ers, a typically aggressive franchise that will probably be pursuing another pass rusher this spring. However, it might not be Crosby, as Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard has revealed that the 49ers might not be too keen on swinging big on the edge rusher.

“But when I’ve checked with 49ers people lately, they’ve noted that they’ve won while getting younger and cheaper over the last year and they’d like to stay with that,” Kawakami wrote. “Also, 49ers management didn’t love the result when they went all-in and over budget a few years ago for Javon Hargrave, and there is definite reluctance to do something so similar now.”

This could open the door for the Bears to swoop in.

The Chicago Bears should jump on Maxx Crosby

If the 49ers are really out of the running for Crosby already, Chicago should waste no time in moving in for a strike. That’s if Crosby becomes available, of course.

The Bears have been searching for a top-flight pass rusher ever since trading Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022. They did acquire Montez Sweat midway through the 2023 campaign, but outside of Sweat’s contributions, sacks have been hard to come by in the Windy City. At least for the Bears.

Crosby has logged four double-digit sack seasons since entering the NFL in 2019 and racked up 73 tackles, 10 sacks, an interception, six passes defended an a pair of forced fumbles in 15 games this year. He topped out at 14.5 sacks in 2023.

Putting Crosby alongside of Sweat and Austin Booker would suddenly give Chicago one of the league’s best pass rushes, and even though it would cost the Bears dearly in terms of draft capital, it’s clear that the rebuild is over in Chi-Town.

Crosby is still just 28 years old and is under contract through 2029. The Bears could add him now and contend for Super Bowls for years to come with the Eastern Michigan product in the trenches.
