Chicago Bears’ Caleb Williams appears to criticize his defense after loss to Lions
In Week 17, the Chicago Bears allowed the San Francisco 49ers to put up 42 points in a loss.

The performance by the defense spoiled a special night by second-year quarterback Caleb Williams, who threw for 330 yards and two touchdowns.
On Sunday, the Bears defense started out matching the same energy. They allowed the Detroit Lions to score on their first three possessions and take a 13-0 lead into halftime.
Following the Bears’ 19-16 loss to the Lions, Chicago head coach Ben Johnson told reporters he ripped into his offense after the game, saying he was not pleased with the unit. He felt the game plan was simple enough for them to execute at a high level.
Chicago was held scoreless until the fourth quarter, when they scored two touchdowns and added two two-point conversions to make it a 16-16 game. However, the Bears defense allowed the Lions to score a game-winning field goal as time expired after a six-play, 39-yard drive.

More News: Lions could be plotting big-time revenge on Ben Johnson
During his postgame news conference, Williams appeared to criticize the play of the defense, suggesting the offense couldn’t dwell on their shortcomings.
“Not good enough to win this game, not good enough to win the upcoming games,” Williams said. “And so we got to get better all sides of the ball. But speaking on offense, whatever happens on the other side of the ball, it’s not something that we can control.
“So we have to control what we can. And we got to come out starting fast, being better. And you know, we’ll do that here coming up.”
The Bears defense allowed the Lions to have three drives of nine-plus plays in the first half. Chicago only had possession of the ball three times before halftime. Detroit ultimately won the time of possession battle 35:45-24:15.
The defense will need to be better for Chicago to win the playoffs. While the offense took too long to get going, the Bears need to find ways to get off the field early in games, or the offense isn’t going to get into rhythm until it’s desperation time.
