Chicago Bears see rival Packers player give Ben Johnson backhanded compliment after 31-27 victory

Chicago Bears, Ben Johnson

The Chicago Bears spent the better part of the last 30+ years consistently on the losing side of their rivalry with the Green Bay Packers. In the last two season, however, Chicago has gone 2-2 against their arch rivals during the regular season and recently won their most important matchup, a showdown in the NFC Wild Card round, 31-27.

It was a game that saw the Bears trailing the Packers 21-6 in the second half. However, Chicago outscored Green Bay 25-6 in the fourth quarter and pulled out one of the best comebacks in NFL Playoffs history.

Doing so against the Packers made it all the more sweeter and notable.

In the wake of the win, head coach Ben Johnson has been the subject of numerous stories and social media posts about his post-game behavior and comments.

Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney calls Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson a “troll”

After the game was over, Johnson went viral for what many from outside the Bears organization viewed as an unsportsmanlike handshake with Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.

Additionally, Johnson’s comments in the locker room with the team where he shouted “F— the Packers!” went viral and drew criticism as well.

When addressing the media today, the Bears head coach was asked about these instances and responded with, “There’s a rivalry that exists between these two teams. Something that I fully recognize and am a part of…I don’t like that team. [Chairman] George [McCaskey] and I have talked and we’re on the same page.”

Also today, Packers All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney was asked about Johnson and his behavior, and had the following to say about Chicago’s head coach:

“He’s a troll, so it’s cool. I’m just not a troll. So I don’t know, that’s just him. But he’s a hell of a coach, though.”

As one can see, McKinney calls Johnson a troll, but readily admits that he is a great coach.

This difference in demeanor, it could be argued, is exactly why Chicago has been able to come out on the better side of their rivalry with Green Bay over the past year especially. Johnson and the Bears have embraced the hatred off the Packers, while their rivals seem to brush off any ill-will and treat their matchups like any other football game.
