Chicago Bears: Weather looks nastier now for Rams game

The weather has been a key storyline this week for Sunday night’s Divisional Round contest between the Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams struggle both on the road in the playoffs and in cold weather. The Bears should have the advantage at Soldier Field on Sunday night. They played in frosty conditions during their 31-27 win over the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round.

Earlier this week, the Chicago Sun-Times predicted the game-time temperature would be in the high teens.

Now it’s expected to be even more brutal for the visiting Rams.

Per an update by ESPN and ABC 7 for the Bears’ forecast, the temps could drop as low as two degrees Fahrenheit Sunday night.

Via ABC 7:

“Temperatures could drop to single digits for the divisional round game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Chicago Bears, with a low of 2 degrees Fahrenheit predicted at Soldier Field. The Bears are accustomed to frigid conditions, of course, but “2 degrees” is barely in the vocabulary of Los Angeles residents.

“It remains to be seen just how much the Rams will be affected by the cold. ABC7 Chicago AccuWeather Meteorologist Tracy Butler said the game will be brutal with frigid wind chills, and there is a chance of snow on Sunday as well.”

Those temperatures would favor the Bears.

Earlier this week, North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick explained why the cold temps could effect the outcome of the game.

“It’ll certainly factor into the execution, throwing, catching the ball in cold is hard,” Belichick said. “I think the wind is a big factor. More in the kicking game than in the passing game, but it can affect the passing game once it picks up into probably, let’s call it in that 15 mile an hour or higher range.”

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford will face a tough challenge in his return to Soldier Field. The Bears defense, which as been opportunistic, will have an extra advantage on Sunday.

Chicago needs to take advantage of their home field to advance to the NFC championship. Right now, it seems as if the Bears are a team of destiny, as much has gone in their favor this season.
