Chicago White Sox writer predicts Colson Montgomery will hit 40+ home runs in 2026
MLB White Sox beat writer Scott Merkin would highlight Montgomery hitting 40 home runs next season as his prediction for Chicago. Below is his snippet regarding the prediction:
“Remember when Montgomery was struggling mightily for Triple-A Charlotte at the start of the 2025 campaign and needed an April reset in Arizona? Those struggles eventually morphed into 21 home runs and an .840 OPS over 71 big league games once he arrived with the White Sox on July 4. Carrying that total throughout a 162-game campaign brings the left-handed hitting shortstop above 40. Montgomery’s numbers weren’t perfect, but he should only improve during his first full season, and his power supply is real.”
Having a shortstop with the ability to have that much power is something rarely seen in Major League Baseball. To put that number in perspective, there have been 13 seasons where a shortstop has hit at least 40 home runs (four total players). This would certainly help the White Sox as they had as they were 23rd in the majors with 165 home runs last season. Montgomery’s power could be a massive addition to Chicago’s lineup for the future and the present.
