Former Cubs trade acquisition sees offseason carousel continue
Before the start of the 2025 season, the Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins made a smaller trade with one another. This one for one swap was not a blockbuster deal like was seen with Edward Cabrera recently, rather it saw first baseman Matt Marvis, who was blocked in the Cubs organization by Michael Busch, get sent to the Marlins in exchange for super utility player Vidal Brujan.
One year later, both Brujan and Marvis are no longer with their respective organizations. Brujan was a trade deadline roster causality for Chicago last summer, and was subsequently claimed by the Baltimore Orioles and later on in the summer the Atlanta Braves. On the other hand, Marvis hit a bleak .175/.254/.383 with the Marlins in 2025, and now has latched on in Washington on a minor league deal.
For Brujan, until recently he had been anticipating continuing to be a Brave for 2026. However, over the past few weeks, he has found himself in three different organizations.

After finishing out the 2025 season on the Braves 40-man roster, where over 24 games he slashed .268/.362/.317, Atlanta elected to designate him for assignment on January 8th. This news came before they found out that Ha-Seong Kim underwent hand surgery and would miss most of the first half of the season.
On the 14th of January, the Minnesota Twins claimed Brujan. He spent one week on their 40-man roster before again being designated for assignment. Minnesota quickly found a trade partner for him, with the New York Mets acquiring him for cash considerations on January 22.
For Brujan, the last calendar year has been a wild one, spending time in five different organizations, and as mentioned, three within the past few weeks. He may now have found a semi permanent home though as Mets GM David Stearns loves defensive versatile players, which Brujan is, as he has played every position throughout his career.
