The front office has been on the lookout to acquire talent that will supplement the roster. However, the White Sox made one mistake by not knowing a player’s abilities and misspoke to the media. Chicago White Sox GM Chris Getz jokes about his Luisangel Acuna comment
The White Sox have been looking to add a spark and general manager Chris Getz believes he did so by trading for Lusangel Acuna. However, he had to correct his previous statement where he got confused about Acuna’s ability.
“So I probably have been getting carried away describing his versatility. He can play every position on the field. Why does it have to stop there? I called Luisangel and told him that even though he’s just right-handed, we still love him.”
This is in response for Getz mentioning that Acuna was a switch-hitter, despite him only being a right-handed hitter. Below is the comment he originally said:
“He has a lot of potential. He can play all over the diamond. He’s a strong defender, baserunner, switch-hitter. He can do a lot of different things to help you win.”
Acuna is going to be competing to be a starter this season with the White Sox after being part of the Luis Robert Jr. trade during the offseason. He struggled offensively last season as he finished with a .234/.293/.274 slash line with zero home runs, eight RBI, and 30 runs scored over 95 games (193 plate appearances) with the New York Mets.
The White Sox have some depth in the outfield with Andrew Benintendi, Brooks Baldwin, Austin Hays, and Everson Pereira all competing for the three starting outfield positions. Acuna does not have any options remaining, so it is likely he will remain on the 2026 Opening Day roster with the White Sox. It will be intriguing to see how well Acuna plays throughout the season as Getz looks to continue improving the roster.
