Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark

Before joining the Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark built a historic career with the Iowa Hawkeyes. The 24-year-old guard became one of the most unforgettable players in women’s college basketball history.

Clark set the NCAA all-time scoring record with 3,951 points and became one of the sport’s most prolific scorers. She also captured two Naismith Awards, two Wooden Awards and was named Big Ten Player of the Year three times. Her impact both on and off the court cemented her status as one of the most celebrated figures in women’s basketball.

Former Iowa guard Gabbie Marshall played alongside Clark from 2020 to 2024. The two were central to Iowa’s dominant women’s basketball era, with Clark’s scoring paired perfectly with Marshall’s defense and leadership. Their complementary skills created a powerful duo who led Iowa to NCAA Tournament runs and championship game appearances in 2023 and 2024.

Caitlin Clark reacts to big news on social media, congratulates former teammate

Clark and Marshall developed a strong bond during their four years at Iowa. Thus, the WNBA star ensured she didn’t miss celebrating her longtime friend’s milestone.

On Sunday, Marshall announced her engagement to boyfriend Spencer Touro on Instagram. She revealed that they got engaged on Wednesday.

Marshall wrote, “WE’RE ENGAGED!! 💠So excited for this next chapter of our lives! And we’ve got a new friend to join us for the ride. 🶠Thank you so much to @the_jewelers_bench for creating the MOST beautiful ring, it is perfect!”

Predictably, the big news soon popped up on Clark’s feed. The Indiana Fever star joined the celebration in the comments, writing “LETSSSSS RAGEEEE💕💕💕💕💕💕,” followed by “CONGRATS SISTA.”

Instead of chasing a WNBA career like Clark, Marshall focused on academics after college. She earned a master’s degree in occupational therapy at the University of North Carolina. But despite different paths, Clark and Marshall remain inseparable off the court.

Touro, also a former University of Iowa student, majored in sport and recreation. He previously worked as a wellness coach at Pro-Fit Gym and later at College Hill CrossFit. Their shared passion for sports and similar college experiences brought them together.

Touro recently shared on Instagram that he had accepted a job in Indianapolis. Marshall later announced that they would be moving to the city. Interestingly, the move will place them in the same city as Clark, who plays for the Fever.
