Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles gives discouraging answer on Raiders’ Maxx Crosby

Maxx Crosby, Chicago Bears

On Friday, the Chicago Bears appeared out of the running to trade for Maxx Crosby after the Baltimore Ravens agreed to a deal that would send two first-round picks to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for the star defensive end.

Then the Ravens backed out of the agreement before the deal could be finalized on Wednesday.

Maybe the Bears could get back into the race to land Crosby. After all, Chicago did not add a pricey defensive lineman in free agency this week.

Maybe the Bears were never really in the running for Crosby at all.

Per Chris Emma of 670 The Score, general manager Ryan Poles told reporters in a news conference on Thursday that the Bears monitored the situation with Crosby but it didn’t go much further as the team had to see if the trade would make sense.

“We’re always going to monitor every situation,” Poles said. “I mean, we checked into it and looked to see if it made sense, had some dialogue, but I’ll just leave it at that.”

Can the Chicago Bears go after Maxx Crosby?

More News: Bears looking to add center after trade

It doesn’t seem like the Bears are hyper-focused on getting a deal done with the Raiders after the Ravens backed out. Other teams, like the New England Patriots, are expressing honesty about going after Crosby.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Bears do wind up picking up the phone to see what the Raiders want for Crosby.

The defensive end should be a little cheaper to acquire at this point.

For one, most teams have figured out their budget and spent money on contracts in free agency.

Furthermore, the Ravens stated that medical concerns were the reason they backed out of the trade for Crosby. There could be a concern about the long-term prospects for the pass-rusher after a meniscus injury, and that could mean a cheaper price.

With that being said, the Raiders could just keep Crosby. He’s a star player, and they have the money to pay him.
