Chicago Bears: President Donald Trump could decide future of stadium
With Indiana gaining momentum on the new stadium project for the Chicago Bears, Illinois is dragging its feet to pass tax-friendly legislation that would aid the team in building in Arlington Heights.

President Donald Trump could play a role in keeping the Bears in Illinois if Gov. JB Pritzker is unable to get the legislature and the team on the same page soon.
Bears CEO/president Kevin Warren has worked with Indiana in the last several months to explore building in the Northwest portion of the Hoosier state.
Earlier this week, Pritzker urged Illinois lawmakers to pass a bill that would give tax breaks to the Bears and companies that work on megaprojects amid a “soft deadline” from the team to get legislation passed by the end of March.
The Bears used Indiana as a key leverage point to get Illinois to buckle. But the United States Congress is exploring legislation that could crush the team’s ability to use Indiana as a bargaining chip.
Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the “Home Team Act” would force franchise owners to give a notice of one year’s notice before moving to a new state or even to a new metropolitan area, which could be crucial in the Bears’ plans of moving outside the city of Chicago.
The bill was introduced by Democrats but is believed to be gaining bipartisan support. Florio suggested it would not be “easy” to get Trump to sign the bill into law.

“Still, it won’t be easy to get this one through Congress — or to get President Trump to sign it into law,” Florio wrote.
But who knows what Trump will do. The President has a track record of getting himself involved in matters relating to NFL teams and new stadiums, like what happened with the Washington Commanders.
One wouldn’t doubt that Trump could use leverage in the legislation that he could use to his own benefit.
