Chicago Cubs get outstanding prediction from CBS Sports ahead of 2026 season
The Chicago Cubs are expected to be in the mix of the contenders in 2026. The front office was aggressive in making additions as they added Edward Cabrera, Alex Bregman, and Phil Maton, to name a few players. That was after making the postseason last season. The expectations are through the roof for Cubs fans, but where does one outlet believe the team stands in the division?
The Chicago Cubs are the clear favorites in the NL Central
CBS Sports released its MLB standings predictions ahead of the 2026 season, beginning on Wednesday. The National League Central saw all five analysts choosing the Cubs to win the NL Central title. One of the analysts, Julian McWilliams, wrote the following on why they chose the Cubs:
“The Cubs should be the class of the division after a strong offseason that included the addition of Alex Bregman. He brings a winning pedigree, having reached the postseason every year since debuting in 2016. Their return to October last year should provide the boost needed for a sustained regular-season run.”
This seemingly is a two-team race, despite having three teams last season make the postseason. Out of the five analysts, the only difference was one choosing the Pittsburgh Pirates to finish in third place, while the remaining four had the Cincinnati Reds finish third. Even with the injuries to Tyler Austin and Seiya Suzuki, the lineup should be one of the best in MLB.
Chicago has strong pitching and the depth to survive the 162-game gauntlet. With the Brewers taking a perceived step back with the trade of Freddy Peralta, it is difficult to see the division being much of a race. It will be intriguing to see how Chicago looks as the season rolls along.
