This Chicago Bears signing is labeled as a perfect fit

The Chicago Bears have been active during the free agency period, signing a handful of players. While there have been some good signings, there are a few that have been perfect fits. Like a glove to a hand, there is one deal the Bears have made that is seemingly a perfect fit. Let’s take a closer look at which player it is and why it is considered to be as good as you can hope for.

The Chicago Bears signing Devin Bush is considered a top free agent signing this year

The Next Gen Stats Analytics Team wrote an article discussing the top eight perfect free agent fits thus far. One of the names selected was Devin Bush and the Bears. They would explain why they decided this signing is one of the best of the offseason:

“Dennis Allen’s defense is based out of Cover 2, which relies on highly athletic linebackers to account for significant space in the middle of the field. After releasing Tremaine Edmunds, the Bears were left with just two off-ball LBs on the roster who played 50+ snaps last season, and neither is a natural Cover 2 anchor. Enter Bush, who allowed 0.49 yards per coverage snap last season, the second-fewest of any linebacker who logged at least 250 coverage snaps. He also recorded three interceptions (returning two for touchdowns) while allowing just one touchdown. He and Edmunds were two of the 14 LBs who were trusted to play man-to-man over 20% of the time, suggesting Allen will continue to cater to Bush’s strengths. Bush was a lynchpin of the Browns’ run defense in 2025, as well, recording 75 run tackles, more than any Bears defender not named Roquan Smith in a single season over the last decade.”

Bush seemingly was one of the few free agents the Bears wanted right away, getting an agreement early on Monday. He is likely going to replace Tremaine Edmunds at a lower price and younger. Bush had a strong 2025 season with the Cleveland Browns as he led the league in interception yardage (168) and pick-sixes (2). He would finish the season with 125 total tackles (63 solo, 62 assisted) with two sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and three interceptions.

This is a major signing for the Bears defense, as he is someone who fits Allen’s defense. Next Gen Stats is also not the only outlet who love this signing. It will be intriguing to see how he winds up performing for Chicago throughout the length of this contract.
