Chicago Cubs: Craig Counsell gives encouraging update on injured closer Daniel Palencia
After winning 11 games in a row, the Chicago Cubs have dropped their last two contests against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In all honesty, most of the games the Cubs won during their streak were against the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets, two of the worst teams in baseball. Now that they are playing better competition, the concerns about their roster have returned.
These concerns, obviously, focus on their pitching staff, which has been ravaged by injuries since even before the season began. As they continue to hope to gain ground in the National League Central Division, it is imperative that their injured pitchers who can come back this year do so as soon as possible.
Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell gives positive update on Daniel Palencia

Prior to their series finale against the Dodgers, Cubs manager Craig Counsell had a positive injury update on closer Daniel Palencia, who is on the injured list with a lat strain:
“I think Palencia is going in a good direction. Our next step for him is a pretty big bullpen on Tuesday.”

“I think Palencia is going in a good direction. The next step for him is a pretty big bullpen [session] on Tuesday. I think that will give us a pretty clear path as to when we’re going to activate him. A pretty clear idea. That would be soonish.”
In five games for the Cubs this year, Palencia has not allowed an earned run and has struck out five batters. He also has one save.
While getting him back would not solve the questions surrounding their starting rotation, having Palencia back will make the team feel much more secure about its bullpen.
