Chicago White Sox snap a long-time skid against the Royals
The Chicago White Sox ended their rough three-game skid with a win over the Kansas City Royals (2-0) on Thursday. The White Sox received great starting pitching performances from left-hander Anthony Kay and relief from the bullpen. Kay earned his first win since 2021 when he was with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The win for the White Sox was notable, as this was their first win over the Royals since 2023. The White Sox had lost 14 consecutive games at Kauffman Stadium, according to USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale.
Despite the White Sox’s solid pitching performance Thursday, their pitching staff has been the worst in baseball.

The Chicago White Anthony Kay gets stared down by Royals outfielder
The White Sox’s win didn’t come without a dramatic moment, as Kay and Royals outfielder/first baseman Jac Caglianone had a few words for each other in the sixth inning. Kay plunked Caglianone with a pitch before getting removed from the game.

“Those guys like to chirp a little bit it seems like,” Kay said to MLB.com’s Scott Merkin. “I don’t think we are going to take that anymore. We are going to go right at them.”
Kay went 5.2 innings, allowing three hits, two walks, and striking out six on 100 pitches (63 strikes). The 31-year-old looks good to start the season (2-1 with a 2.45 ERA) after coming over from the Nippon Professional Baseball Organization (9-6 with a 1.74 ERA).
