Chicago White Sox to retire Ozzie Guillen’s jersey on August 8

Ozzie Guillen will have his number retired with the Chicago White Sox
During the home opener on Friday, the White Sox announced they will be retiring Guillen’s #13 jersey on August 8. They announced it on the scoreboard with a video showing some of his highlights as a player and manager. Guillen spent the first 13 years of his playing career with the White Sox. In that time, he would win the 1985 AL Rookie of the Year Award, win a Gold Glove, and make three All-Star teams. He would post a .265/.286/.339 slash line with 24 homers, 565 RBI, and 163 steals in 1,743 games.
Guillen would return to the organization as a manager for the team in 2004. It took just two years and he led the team to win the World Series. He would manage the team through the 2011 season and post a 678-617 (.524) record. He would go 12-4 in the playoffs as well before leaving to take the Miami Marlins job in 2012. Guillen will now have his number immortalized with the following other numbers:

Chicago is retiring one of its top all-time personalities and lifers for the rest of the franchise’s history. Guillen was brought to tears when this was announced, catching him completely by surprise. It will be interesting to see how August 8 will look when the ceremony takes place.
