The Cubs were not without chances to score in extra innings. Chicago had the bases loaded in the tenth inning. The Cubs had a man at second and third with no outs in the 11th inning.
However, the Cubs failed to bring anyone home, and they lost the second game of a three-game series to the Pirates in front of a frustrated crowd of 34,049 fans at Wrigley Field.
Chicago managed just nine hits in 11 innings.
Chicago Cubs’ Craig Counsell hope things turn around

During his postgame news conference, Cubs manager Craig Counsell admitted that it’s no fun in the clubhouse right now. But he believes things will turn in the Cubs’ direction.
“Yeah, I mean, look, it’s gonna turn, it’s gonna happen,” Counsell said, via Marquee Sports Network. “It’s no fun, right now, when it, when it doesn’t happen, and when you feel like you have a ton of opportunities and can’t, you know, can’t get a run across.
“It’s gonna turn. And you know that’s, that’s the way you got to look at it. It’s, obviously, you know, you miss opportunities as the hitter, and you’re, you know, mad at yourself. And you know you wanted to want the pitch back, but it’ll turn.”

With the loss, the Cubs dropped to 6-8 on the season. They’re three games behind the Pirates for first place in the NL Central.
With numerous injuries to the pitching rotation, Chicago is wasting good outings on the mound with an underwhelming offense, supposedly the strength of the team. The sluggish start for the offense is a cause for concern.
The Cubs will host the Pirates for Game 3 of the series on Sunday at 1:20 p.m. CT.
