Projected Chicago White Sox $11,350,600 draft pick continues to distance himself from the pack
The Chicago White Sox hold the number one overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, which is just less than three months away. For quite some time, UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky has been the projected top pick. As the collegiate season continues to progress, that has continued to be the case, with the 21 year old only separating himself even further from the pack and putting himself firmly in the driver seat for over an $11 million pay day.

At USA Today, staff writer Gabe Lacques updated his projected first round selections for the 2026 MLB draft. Lacques noted that Cholowsky not only remains the clear number one overall selection, but he is distancing himself from the pack with a strong junior season where he has 48 hits in 38 games, including 13 homers. For reference, last year Cholowsky collected 89 hits and had 23 home runs over 66 games played. So far this year, he is 39 games into his college season.
That kind of production only strengthens the case for Cholowsky to be the best pick at the top of the draft. However, it is also worth mentioning that he is the son of former Minor Leaguer and long-time scout Dan Cholowsky, making him one of the most complete players as well as his baseball instincts and IQ are highly regarded as well.
Assuming things hold and Cholowsky becomes the White Sox’s top pick in July, that selection carries an assigned value of $11,350,600, the largest since the bonus pool era began in 2012. In total, Chicago will have $17,592,100 to work with in this year’s draft, a figure topped only by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays, both of whom exceed $19 million.
