This is the biggest thing we have learned about the 2026 Chicago Cubs

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The Chicago Cubs have been one of the bigger disappointments through the first few weeks of the regular season. Despite all of their talent, they are sitting with an 8-9 record up to this point. There are some things that we can take away after almost 1/8th of the season already in the rearview mirror. One outlet believes we have learned something major about the Cubs, so let’s take a look at what they said.

The Chicago Cubs’ starting pitching is being significantly tested

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report wrote an article discussing one thing we learned about each MLB team this season. The thing we have learned is ‘the rotation is already a bigger question’. Rymer explained why this is his decision below:

“This is to imply that the strength of the rotation was always a question the Cubs would have to answer this year. And now, even more so after injuries to Matthew Boyd and Cade Horton. Boyd will be back soon, but Horton is done for the rest of the year after having elbow surgery. What starters Chicago does hve are only rocking a 3.95 ERA in the meantime, so it’s already time to be working the phones.”

Entering the April 15 slate of games, the Cubs are tied with the Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres for 21st in starting pitcher innings (82.0). With Chicago being one of the teams that are interested in signing free agent Lucas Giolito, they want to fix their starting pitching woes. With the current rotation of Shota Imanaga, Edward Cabrera, Jameson Taillon, Javier Assad, and Colin Rea, there are players who could improve the rotation going forward.

The Cubs have some starting pitching depth in the minors, but they need to figure things out. It will be intriguing to see how the Cubs’ pitching is able to hold up as the season continues.
