Hugo Cuypers makes MLS history as Chicago Fire win again
The Chicago Fire are off to a hot start this season, thanks to the play of Hugo Cuypers. After a win earlier in the week, the Fire traveled to Montreal to face off against CF Montréal and came back with a big road win.
After Philip Zinckernagel got the scoring started by finding the back of the net in the 14th minute, Cuypers extended the lead. His goal in the 67th minute doubled the lead for the Fire, giving them another win. They moved to 7-4-2 with 23 points on the season as their impressive start continues here in the 2026 campaign.
And in doing so, Cuypers made some MLS history

With the 67th minute goal, Cuypers extended his streak of appearances with a goal. The forward made MLS history as he became only the third player to score in 10 consecutive appearances in MLS, trailing only Carlos Vela (11) and Josef Martínez (15).
His 67th-minute strike placed him at the top of the Golden Boot race with two more goals than Lionel Messi and Petar Musa at the start of Matchday 14.
Cuypers has been the catalyst for the Fire who are finding success after reaching the play-in game last season. They are currently third in the conference and are having their best season under manager Gregg Berhalter.
While the season is young and the international break is approaching, this start by the Fire should install some confidence for the stretch run late this Summer.
The Fire return to the pitch on Saturday, May 23rd as they host Toronto.
