One player caught the eye of Bears HC Ben Johnson during OTAs
The Chicago Bears signed Drew Dalman to a three-year, $42 million deal in 2025. However, Drew Dalman surprisingly retired at 27 years old on March 3, leaving the team with a big hole at the position.
Ben Johnson and his staff, along with the front office, scrambled for a replacement and landed Garrett Bradbury via a trade with the New England Patriots.
The veteran will look to become one of the leaders of the offensive line that performed well last season. Coaches will rely on his 6-foot-3, 305-pound frame and strong base to protect Caleb Williams as he surveys the field. Bradbury’s experience will also come in handy as Chicago has a relatively young roster.
He took part in the Bears’ OTAs and put in reps alongside the O-line. It provided Bradbury with the opportunity to learn the playbook and also establish his presence.

It didn’t take long for Bradbury to make an impact with his new team. He also caught the eye of Johnson, who spoke highly of him to reporters on Thursday. The head coach expressed optimism that he would work well with the rest of the unit in no time.
“A guy like Garrett Bradbury, impressed (in) day one, just with the level of communication that he brings to the table,” Johnson said. “He’s loud. He’s demonstrative. I know that he’s going to be able to get all five guys on the same page.”
The Bears’ O-line stood out as one of the best in the NFL last season. It achieved a No. 3 ranking and produced 441 points, the third-most in franchise history. The unit earned an 87.7 PFF pass-blocking efficiency rating, allowing just 13 sacks all season. Chicago significantly improved after giving up a league-high 37 in 2024.
Bradbury may need more time to fully immerse himself in the unit. However, Johnson hinted that he is already meshing well with his new teammates.
