Chicago Bears suddenly linked to trade for rising star pass rusher
The Chicago Bears have done absolutely nothing to address their pass rush this offseason, this in spite of the fact that the Bears totaled just 35 sacks in 2025.
Perhaps Chicago is really confident in Dayo Odeyingbo’s recovery and Austin Booker having a breakout year. Or maybe the Bears just screwed up.
Regardless, there is still time for Chicago to add another edge rusher. There are still some intriguing veterans remaining in free agency, and we just saw the Los Angeles Rams acquire Myles Garrett in a shocking trade with the Cleveland Browns. Anything can happen.
Can the Bears pull off a stunner of their own?
Ryan Heckman of Bear Goggles On feels it’s a possibility, citing Rams edge rusher Byron Young as a potential target for Chicago following Los Angeles’ acquisition of Garrett.

The Rams sent Jared Verse and a first-round pick to the Browns in exchange for Garrett, so you would think they are probably done moving pass rushers now.
The idea for LA was surely to put Garrett alongside of Young and Kobie Turner, but with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently reporting that Los Angeles won’t be extending anyone from its 2027 free-agent class this summer, Heckman feels an opportunity for the Bears might exist.
The Rams surely won’t be keeping both Young and Turner long term, after all, so they may want to cash in on the value of one of the two young stars now.
Young racked up 82 tackles, 12 sacks and 29 quarterback hits in 2025, making his first Pro Bowl appearance. He has managed 27.5 sacks over his first three seasons and would comprise quite a duo with Montez Sweat, so you can understand why Chicago might be very interested.
That being said, the idea of the Rams landing Garrett was surely to pair him along with Young for 2026. Los Angeles is trying to win a Super Bowl now, and moving Young right after landing Garrett (and jettisoning Verse in the process) would be counterintuitive.
Of course, the Bears can still come with a strong offer and see what Los Angeles says, but this one seems rather unlikely for Chicago.
Just sign Jadeveon Clowney and get it over with.
