Chicago Bulls: Caleb Wilson plans on putting himself in Michael Jordan territory in 2026-27
It is a new era of Chicago Bulls basketball. After years of perennial disappointment, the team decided to hire Tiago Splitter as their new head coach. Splitter made a name for himself after taking over as the interim head coach of the Portland Trailblazers following Chanucey Billups’ arrest for leading an illegal gambling ring, and was one of the most coveted names on the coaching market this off-season.
Additionally, Chicago was fortunate enough to land the fourth overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. They used said pick on forward Caleb Wilson out of North Carolina. And he has his eyes set on mirroring another former Bulls lottery pick out the same university.
Chicago Bulls draft pick Caleb Wilson expects to win the NBA Rookie of the Year Award
On Friday, Wilson was introduced to the Chicago media for the first time. During his interview, he stated he expects to accomplish something first done by Michael Jordan in Bulls history: win the NBA Rookie of the Year Award.
“I expect to have Rookie of the Year, honestly,” Wilson said. “I’m willing to work hard, I’m gonna do what it takes. I feel like the team is really good for me and how I envision to play. I know I’m a hard worker, so whatever I need to fix and work on throughout the season and before the season, I’m gonna work on it so I can be a great player.”
In addition to Jordan, only Elton Brand and Derrick Rose have taken home the prestigious award in franchise history.
In his only season of college basketball at North Carolina, Wilson averaged 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
