Chicago Cubs go up 1 spot in latest MLB power rankings after series win (finally)
Prior to the start of the 2026 MLB season, the Chicago Cubs were predicted to be one of the best teams in all baseball. Additionally, many experts predicted that they would represent the National League in the World Series. Unfortunately, the Cubs have turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments in the league.
That being said, Chicago does have the potential to be one of baseball’s best teams. After all, they put together two separate ten-game winning streaks earlier in the year. However, they have also had a ten-game losing streak and went over a month without winning a single series.
The Chicago Cubs come in 11th in the latest MLB power rankings
Prior to and early in the season, the high regard many had for the Cubs was shown by their constantly being ranked among the ten best teams in baseball. Even when they were in the midst of their series losing streak, many could not bring themselves to put them too low on their lists.
With their series win over the San Francisco Giants over the weekend, MLB.com moved them up from 12th to 11th:
“The most up-and-down team in baseball got back on another winning streak this week, this a more modest three-gamer before their loss on Sunday. They’re still 10-23 since their second 10-game win streak ended on May 8.”
Fortunately for Chicago, they are now going to be starting a series at home against the lowly Colorado Rockies. That being said, the Rockies can hit, as evidenced by the fact they hung 23 runs up on the Athletics in a single game over the weekend.
Pitching has been the Cubs’ most fatal flaw this season, and they will need it to hold up early this week as they look to win a second series in a row. If they cannot, well, there will continue to be tough conversations had around the team.
