This Chicago Bulls free agent target wants max money
The Chicago Bulls are gearing up for one of the more critical offseasons in recent memory for the franchise. They have some of the most cap space to improve the roster and four draft picks in this month’s draft. One of the biggest free agent names that they have been linked to could wind up in the Windy City. Let’s take a look at the latest news surrounding him and discuss why the Bulls are more than in the mix to land him.
Austin Reaves wants max money this offseason
Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times was on Spectrum Sportsnet Live and revealed some news regarding free agent Austin Reaves. It is a good sign for the Bulls if they want to end up signing him.
“[Reaves] stands to make five years, $241 million if they offer him that deal. Or if he gets to a team like the Chicago Bulls, or a team like Brooklyn, he can get four years, $178 million. Those teams will kind of lurk around. But based on what I understand, what I keep hearing: Austin wants the max. Is he willing to give the Lakers a hometown deal? I’m not so sure about that.”
If it is purely about the money for Reaves, there is a chance that he will not be with the Los Angeles Lakers next season. They have questions with Reaves, LeBron James, and DeAndre Ayton all being free agents, so some or all could be leaving the team this offseason. For the Bulls, they have a significant amount of cap space and can offer Reaves max money to join.
Reaves is an intriguing player for Chicago. Bryson Graham, the Executive Vice President of the franchise, brought upon SLAP for players (speed, length, athleticism, physicality) and Reaves could fit that mold. Reaves missed time with a strained left calf and a Grade 2 left oblique strain. In 51 games, he averaged 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.1 steals on 49.0/36.0/87.1 shooting splits last year. His shooting dropped almost 10 percent from the floor and three in the postseason.
If Reaves decides to leave the Lakers, the Bulls seem to be one of the most likely destinations. It will be intriguing to see what Reaves and the Bulls decide to do this offseason.
