Bears’ latest trade proposal is a deal they should make immediately

Ben Johnson, Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears absolutely need another pass rusher alongside of Montez Sweat, but they haven’t seemed to be in any rush to acquire one.

The Bears have not addressed the issue in free agency, nor did they select an edge rusher in the NFL Draft. Yes, there is still time for them to sign someone like Jadeveon Clowney or Joey Bosa, but they seem perfectly content heading into 2026 with Dayo Odeyingbo and Austin Booker.

That’s dangerous, considering Odeyingbo managed just one sack in eight games before going down with a torn Achilles last year, and Booker logged 4.5 sacks in 10 contests.

Booker certainly appears to have some potential, but he is wholly unproven, which means Chicago could end up near the bottom of the league in sacks yet again.

Austen Bundy of FanSided believes that the Bears should definitely consider a trade before the start of the 2026 campaign, and he has devised a package that would land Chicago one of the top edge defenders who could possibly be available: Arizona Cardinals star Josh Sweat.

Chicago Bears’ trade proposal lands Josh Sweat

Sweat expressed dissatisfaction with the Cardinals earlier this offseason, one year after signing a four-year, $76.4 million contract with the team.

Things appear to have settled down since then, as Sweat has been taking part in Arizona’s offseason program, but there could still be a chance that the Cardinals move the former Pro Bowler so long as the price is right.

Bundy has the Bears sending a third-round pick to Arizona in exchange for Sweat and a 2028 sixth-rounder, which would certainly be a fantastic deal for Chicago.

“With the NFC North arms race heating up, the Chicago Bears are going to need to counter every upgrade their rivals make. Should an ambitious pursuit of Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby not work out, turning the team’s attention to Sweat may be more realistic. Plus, the memes would be immaculate if Chicago managed to have two Sweats (Josh and Montez) on the pass rush unit,” Bundy wrote.

Sweat played in all 17 games during his debut campaign with the Cardinals in 2025, racking up 30 tackles, 12 sacks and four forced fumbles.

The 29-year-old spent the first seven years of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, making the Pro Bowl in 2021. He has accumulated 55 sacks over the course of his career and would represent a much-needed addition to the Bears’ front seven.

If that’s all it would cost Chicago to acquire Sweat, it should pull the trigger immediately.
