Caitlin Clark gets bad news amid looming WNBA suspension

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark continues to dominate WNBA headlines this season. She is in the midst of her best campaign as a professional and has been leading the Indiana Fever in their huge turnaround after starting the year slowly.

However, she drew a lot of attention during Wednesday’s game against the Connecticut Sun, not for her performance. The star guard received her seventh technical foul, leaving her just one away from an automatic suspension. She engaged in a heated exchange with Saniya Rivers, and both received a tech.

Indiana dominated the matchup, winning 123-88. Clark led the way with 27 points built on five three-pointers, along with 11 assists. Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston supported her with 23 and 22 points, respectively.

The Sun, on the other hand, saw six of their players score in double digits but failed to contain the Fever’s hot shooting.

WNBA issues decision on Caitlin Clark’s seventh technical

The WNBA will not rescind Clark’s technical foul. She must be extremely careful to avoid a one-game suspension and $1,500 fine. The league fines players $500 for their first three techs of the season, and $1,000 for the fourth to seventh. Should she receive an eighth technical foul, every two techs thereafter (10th, 12th, and so on) will be penalized by another one-game suspension.

Clark once again had a strong game on Tuesday versus the Seattle Storm. She registered a team-high 32 points on an efficient 9-of-14 shooting, along with four rebounds, seven assists and four three-pointers. Mitchell contributed 28 points, while Monique Billings added 14 points and 11 rebounds in the 105-95 win.

Indiana has won four consecutive games and now holds an 18-10 record for the campaign. The team started 5-5 but has since turned things around ahead of the playoff push.

Next up for Clark and her team is a road game against the Portland Fire on Friday. A victory will not only extend their winning streak but also strengthen their grip on a playoff spot.
