Chicago Bears’ Colston Loveland reveals his top 3 TEs in NFL
Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland quickly validated his No. 10 overall selection with a strong rookie season. Chicago drafted Loveland in the 2025 NFL Draft after a decorated career at Michigan.
Loveland recorded 58 catches, 713 receiving yards, and six touchdowns in 16 games as a rookie. His yardage total made him the first rookie to lead the Bears in receiving yards since Willie Gault in 1983. He also became the first rookie tight end to achieve that feat since Hall of Famer Mike Ditka in 1961.
The Idaho native helped the team win its first NFC North title since 2018 and first playoff victory since 2011. Following that breakout season, Loveland earned the Bears’ Rookie of the Year honor and established himself as an important piece of Chicago’s offense.

Loveland recently shared his list of the NFL’s best tight ends during an appearance on the “Bussin With The Boys” podcast.
He named George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers, Trey McBride of the Arizona Cardinals and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs as his top three tight ends. He listed the trio in no particular order and praised each for different reasons.
“I think George [Kittle] is still doing it at a very high level all around,” Loveland said. “And then there are guys, I think, that do certain things better like Trey [McBride] put up 1,300 yards this year or something like that. That’s pretty crazy. 90 catches or something.”
McBride’s actual production was slightly lower than Loveland’s estimate, but his record-setting season still caught the young Bears tight end’s attention. The Cardinals star set an NFL record for receptions by a tight end with 126 catches for 1,239 yards in 2025.
While McBride’s game is built on catching a high volume of passes, Kittle balances his receiving ability with elite blocking. Loveland then explained why the 49ers star’s work in the running game stands out to him.
“I think his run game just speaks to me a lot,” he said. “Like, how his get off, his pad level, hand placement. I don’t think there’s a lot of guys doing it like that.”

Loveland also pointed to Kelce’s route running and ability to exploit defensive coverage.
“Fine in space, obviously winning in man coverage,” the 22-year-old explained. “But just the way he fills zones, I think, and his route detail. Yeah, it’s pretty. It’s fun to watch.”
Loveland’s comments highlighted the specific traits he values in elite tight ends. Those qualities could help Chicago’s rushing attack continue its success in 2026. The Bears ranked third in the NFL in rushing offense last season, averaging 144.5 yards per game.
Entering his second season, Loveland is expected to take on an even larger role in the Bears’ offense.
