Chicago White Sox shockingly named possible trade destination for Mason Miller
The Chicago White Sox are 55-51 on the season, good for first place in the American League Central Division. They currently have a 1.5-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians with just a little over two months remaining in the regular season.
Obviously, the division is still wide open. However, the fact that the White Sox are even in a position to be in the conversation this year (after three consecutive 100+ loss seasons) is nothing short of amazing. Clearly, they are further ahead in their rebuild than many believed they were.
And with the MLB trade deadline looming, Chicago is poised to be serious buyers for the first time in a while.
The Chicago White Sox named a possible landing spot for Mason Miller
One of the areas in which the White Sox must see improvement if they are to continue contending in 2026 is the bullpen. Obviously, Mason Miller, the two-time All-Star closer from the San Diego Padres, is the most high-profile name on the trade market as the MLB deadline nears.
It is not yet known whether or not Miller will even be moved, but if he is, Fox Sports believes that Chicago is a possible destination:
“Acquiring Miller would give the White Sox their undisputed closer, taking the burden off younger/less experienced relievers like Bryan Hudson and Grant Taylor to shut the door. Plus, veteran Seranthony Domínguez, who owns a 4.21 ERA and is 12 of 17 in save situations for Chicago, previously found more success in a setup role with the Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays.”
Miller, who has a 0.81 ERA and 27 saves so far this season, would give Chicago the chance to move their current relievers into roles in which they have been more successful, as noted above.
Additionally, Miller has three more seasons of club control remaining after the 2026 season. While this makes him all the more enticing for teams interested in trading for him, it also makes him more expensive. The White Sox would have to give up significant prospect resources in order to acquire him.
That being said, Chicago has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to middle infield prospects. They could certainly offer the Padres an intriguing package.
