Bears HC Ben Johnson reveals ‘amazing’ Colston Loveland development
Colston Loveland enjoyed a strong rookie season. He impressed Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson and his staff and is expected to play a bigger role in 2026. The tight end continues to receive praise for his work ethic and attitude.
Chicago drafted him at No. 10 overall following a standout collegiate career with the Michigan Wolverines. Loveland played a key role in helping the program win the national championship in 2023. He entered the NFL as a one-time second-team All-American, one-time first-team All-Big Ten and one-time second-team All-Big Ten team member.
Loveland recorded 58 receptions for 713 yards and six touchdowns last year, earning more playing time as the campaign progressed. He also built chemistry with Caleb Williams, which should translate to more connections next season.
Ben Johnson raves about Colston Loveland’s work ethic with Bears
Johnson addressed the media and raved about what he has been seeing from Loveland. He highlighted how the 22-year-old has continues to put in work and even attending special teams meetings to help him become a better player.
“He knows pretty much every spot,” Johnson said. “He’s looking at the receiver routes. It’s amazing to me when you go into a special teams meetings and you hear him, you see him taking notes and then you hear him asking questions about special teams units that he’s not likely to be on.
“It just says a lot about who he is. He’s just a sponge right now. He wants all the information. He knows all this knowledge is just going to make him a better player and he’s going to continue to play faster in real time, which is great.”

The Bears will rely heavily on Loveland to help lead the team to surpass its success in 2025.Chicago won the NFC North with an 11-6 record and reached the Divisional Round.It will open its regular-season campaign on Sept.13 against the Carolina Panthers.
