Chicago Bears: 3 most important players following tragic Coby Bryant injury update
The Chicago Bears faced many challenges this off-season. Among the most challenging of these was the fact that they had to replace virtually their entire safety room. Their starters from last season all departed in free agency, and the team had limited resources with which to replace them.
One way they decided to address the issue was by signing safety Coby Bryant. Last year, he won the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks and Chicago believed he would be a valuable addition to their roster. After all, they have Super Bowl aspirations in 2026 themselves.
Unfortunately, they may not be able to utilize Bryant at all this year.
Chicago Bears safety Coby Bryant is out for 4-6 months

Last week, it was reported that Bryant had suffered a significant knee injury during practice. At the time, it was also stated that he would be out for the next 8-10 weeks.
However, head coach Ben Johnson said that that 8-10 week estimation did not come from the Bears organization. He stated that they were still in the information-gathering stage.
Well, the information came in, and it was not good.

Bryant will be out a lot longer than 8-10 weeks. He is going to miss 4-6 months, which means the potential is there for him to miss the entire 2026 NFL season.
With their preferred top safety out for most of the season, if not all of it, the following players have the opportunity to step up.
Dillon Thieneman
Chicago’s first round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Dillon Thieneman now becomes the Bears top safety. He has big shoes to fill, no doubt. However, Chicago obviously believes he is capable of doing so. After all, they used a top pick on him.
Anthony Johnson Jr.
A former seventh round pick by the Green Bay Packers, Anthony Johnson Jr. has appeared in 21 career games and has one career interception. He spent the last two seasons with the New York Giants organization, though he missed all of 2025 due to injury.
Cam Lewis
With Bryant out, Cam Lewis is now the safety on the roster with the most NFL experience. He spent the last six seasons with the Buffalo Bills and has not missed a regular season game for the last three years.
Lewis has just one career interception, though, and the Bears must hope that he can find a niche in Dennis Allen’s defense that makes him more productive.
