Chicago Bears’ Gervon Dexter trade makes more sense after Dennis Allen message
Part of the reason the Chicago Bears’ Gervon Dexter trade with the Atlanta Falcons seemed so shocking was the level of depth behind him. However, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen thinks Chicago’s depth is exactly what made Dexter expendable.
As he looks into the defensive tackle room, he sees plenty of standouts. Of them all, Kentavius Street has made the biggest impression on Allen, via Kaitlin Sharkey of WGNTV.
“[Street] was the most productive tackle we had throughout the course of training camp, Allen said. “I think he’s been productive throughout.”
The Bears signed Street to a one-year, nearly $2 million deal over the offseason. Now, he is poised to play a crucial role on the interior of the defensive line. Whether he starts next to Grady Jarrett is yet too be seen. But Chicago should expect too see plenty of Street in 2026.
Chicago Bears turn to Kentavius Street
Street came to the Bears after spending nearly the past three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. He has appeared in 85 games total over his seven years in the league, registering 125 tackles, 17 quarterback hits and 10.5 sacks.
Chicago will need to replace Dexter’s sack numbers, as he had 11 over the last two seasons. But Street will also be tasked with helping stop the run game. The Bears finished their 2025 campaign ranked 27th in run defense, allowing 134.5 yards per game.
Street won’t suddenly fix those issues on his own. But he has full confidence from Allen that his presence will make an impact. Joining a DT room that also features Jarrett, Neville Gallimore and rookies Jordan van den Berg and Jayden Loving, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Allen go through a rotation. As long as Street stays in the defensive coordinator’s good graces, he should play a pivotal role in that rotation.
Chicago’s defensive line is still a work in progress. But the Bears have shown immense faith in what they have on the roster. Street’s work has helped Allen’s optimism in that regard.
