Chicago Bears’ Rome Odunze suffers another apparent foot injury, RB hurt

Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze

A stress fracture in Rome Odunze’s left foot kept the wide receiver out of the final five games of the Chicago Bears‘ regular season. He exited practice early on Thursday due to another apparent injury.

Odunze was Caleb Williams’ No. 1 receiver last season until the injury. He wound up finishing third in receiving with 661 yards and six touchdowns on 44 receptions. Tight end Colston Loveland, then a rookie, became the Bears’ leading receiver last season after Odunze’s injury.

The injury on Thursday doesn’t appear to be a setback for the receiver, but a new complication, as he favored his right foot.

Per Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune, Odunze was pulled off the field by the training camp staff after hobbling on his right leg/foot. Running back D’Andre Swift exited practice with an injury.

“Bears WR Rome Odunze and RB D’Andre Swift exited practice with apparent injuries today,” Hammond posted on X. “Odunze came up hobbling during an install period at the start of practice. Looked like right leg. He wasn’t overly concerned — he tried to stay in — but trainers pulled him off.”

Chicago Bears WR Rome Odunze had returned to normal

Earlier in the offseason, Odunze suggested he had a “new normal” on his left foot.

“The way my foot broke, there’s callouses in there that create a different type of foot structure with those bones — different types of things that kind of shift things around,” Odunze said.

During training camp, Odunze clarified his comments, saying he was back to normal.

“I know ‘new normal,’ that has a bunch of connotations of like chronic and severe, like, never going to be the same,” Odunze said. “It’s not like that at all. Like, I’m completely fine.”

The Bears had another receiver injury to keep an eye on before the season when Luther Burden III suffered a groin strain. He appears to be on the mend before Chicago travels to open its season against the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 13.
