NY Jets Injury Report NY Jets Injury Report NY Jets Injury Report

The New York Jets will head to Detroit without three players on Sunday, including safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, while a late-week injury to wide receiver Adonai Mitchell gives the team another situation to watch heading into their Week 3 matchup against the Lions. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed Friday that Fitzpatrick, linebacker Kiko Mauigoa and tight end Mason Taylor have all been ruled out. Running back Kene Nwangwu is doubtful, while edge rushers Joseph Ossai and David Bailey were full participants in Friday’s practice. The full NY Jets injury report appears below.

The only new addition to the injury report was Mitchell, who injured his finger during Thursday’s practice when it became caught in a jersey.

“He’ll be limited today,” Glenn said when asked about Mitchell’s status for Sunday.

Mitchell is officially listed as questionable. Ossai is also questionable despite progressing from limited participation on Wednesday and Thursday to a full practice Friday. David Bailey was a full participant throughout the week.

Jets Will Be Without Minkah Fitzpatrick

The biggest absence for the Jets defense is Fitzpatrick. The veteran safety did not practice at all this week because of a groin injury and was officially ruled out Friday. Mauigoa, dealing with a quad injury, also missed all three practices and will not play.

Taylor will also miss Sunday’s game with a thumb injury. Glenn indicated the tight end’s absence isn’t expected to become a long-term issue.

“I would say that would be week-to-week,” Glenn said. “That won’t be long.”

Nwangwu appears unlikely to play after missing all three practices with a back injury. The Jets officially listed him as doubtful.

There was better news surrounding Ossai. After being limited for two practices with a foot injury, he returned as a full participant Friday. Glenn stopped short of declaring that Ossai would play against Detroit.

“He’ll be full in practice; we’ll see how that goes,” Glenn said.

Jets Preparing for Hostile Environment in Detroit

Beyond the injuries, Glenn emphasized the Jets’ preparation for playing on the road in Detroit. He said practices this week were designed to replicate game situations and maintain intensity throughout all four quarters.

“I thought we had a really good week of prep,” Glenn said.

Glenn specifically mentioned preparing the Jets for what he expects to be a hostile crowd and stressed the importance of maintaining what he called “competitive stamina.”

The Jets will need that preparation while playing shorthanded, particularly in the secondary without Fitzpatrick. But Friday brought some encouraging injury news as well, with Bailey practicing fully throughout the week and Ossai making enough progress to return to full participation.

On Detroit’s side, guard Ben Bartch and safety Thomas Harper have been ruled out. Several other Lions who appeared on the injury report earlier in the week, including offensive linemen Christian Mahogany, Blake Miller and Tate Ratledge, were full participants Friday.

The Jets and Lions meet Sunday in Detroit for their Week 3 matchup.
