Angel Reese’s defiant statement after Game 5 loss
The Atlanta Dream lost 64-55 in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals on Monday at Chase Center. The No. 2-seeded team is now just one win away from winning the championship and eliminating Angel Reese and Co. However, the star forward issued a defiant statement after the defeat.
Reese finished with seven points, 15 rebounds and five assists. She struggled from the field, converting just 2-of-8 attempts, and was not as aggressive as she was in the first three games. Rhyne Howard led the way for Atlanta with 20 points, five rebounds and three three-pointers. Jordin Canada produced 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Allisha Gray added 10 points.
Meanwhile, Kiah Stokes and Veronica Burton spearheaded Golden State’s attack. They finished with 13 points and eight rebounds each. Tiffany Hayes backed them with 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Angel Reese remains confident despite Game 5 defeat
Reese made it clear that she has not lost belief in her teammates. She also expressed optimism that Atlanta will figure things out and still come out on top.
“I still believe in our team,” Reese said. “I still believe that we can win this, one game at a time… It’s not going to rain too much longer for us.”

The Dream will host Game 6 at State Farm Arena on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET. It was previously reported that the pivotal matchup could be played at Gateway Center Arena instead as there’s a scheduling conflict with the Atlanta Hawks. The league and the NBA team have since resolved it and came up with a win-win solution.
Reese’s production in the next game will be key in extending the series. However, Atlanta still needs to win on the road in the potential winner-take-all matchup to lift the trophy. The good news is they proved they can do so by winning Game 2 at Ballhalla.
