Atlanta Falcons QB situation up in the air for Week 6 clash with Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are coming off their most embarrassing loss of the season.

Ben Johnson’s group was routed 31-7 on Sunday afternoon as their NFC North rival Green Bay Packers took care of business at home. This is a Bears team that’s still missing its starting QB, Caleb Williams, and it was apparent in the outcome. Williams’ absence hadn’t meant much thus far, as backups Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum had been holding down the fort since Week 3.

However, Bagent’s lack of experience showed in Green Bay, and the Bears offense couldn’t get going all day. Add in a few missed field goals and poor effort on defense, and it was a recipe for disaster.

Next week, the Bears will travel to Atlanta to take on the 2-3 Falcons. Their QB situation is also up in the air, after starter Michael Penix Jr. exited the game with a rib injury in last night’s overtime loss to the Ravens. His likelihood of playing is high, per The Athletic, but we won’t know for sure until the week progresses.

If Penix can’t go, that opens the door for Tua Tagovailoa, who came in relief for him last night. Tua threw the game-ending interception and looked like his usual self in the brief appearance he made.

It’s safe to assume that most Bears fans would prefer to go up against Tagovailoa.

Chicago Bears set to get Caleb Williams back for huge Week 6 matchup

Luckily for the Chicago Bears, they are set to have Caleb Williams back this week, barring any re-aggravation.

The Bears offense has stumbled since his departure and looked quite awful in yesterday’s defeat. Even with the Packers desperate for a big win, most expected the Bears to keep it close, or even win. That was the furthest thing from the truth, as Johnson’s team looked awful.

He eventually benched Bagent for the veteran Keenum. Many thought he should’ve been considered for starting this week after his performance on Monday night a few weeks ago.

“We felt like we just wanted a little spark there,” Johnson said. “Tyson could never feel like he got into a rhythm here today. We’ll look at why that was the case. The second interception happened, and we just felt like, let’s give Case a chance out there and see if we get different results.”

This will likely be a rough week of practice for the Bears, but it’s needed. After coming out and laying an egg against your biggest rival, it’s needed.
