A Shocking Prostate Cancer Comeback

Cancer continues to claim hundreds of thousands of lives each year in the United States. In 2023 alone, the CDC reported 613,349 deaths, and projections suggest the toll could top 618,000 in 2024.

Research centers nationwide are racing to develop new treatments, with the National Cancer Institute tracking over 450 clinical trials now underway across nearly every cancer type and stage.

Prostate cancer remains one of the most common diagnoses among men. The American Cancer Society expects about 313,780 new cases and 35,770 deaths from prostate cancer in 2025. For men with Stage 4 disease—considered incurable—doctors typically offer therapies that can slow the cancer but not eliminate it. Yet a surprising case from Ohio suggests that may not always be true.

One Patient’s Second Battle

Hope and innovation in cancer care: Patients and doctors are embracing new pathways, combining research, repurposed medicines, and determination on the journey to healing.

Jeffrey Kramer, a retired attorney from Shelby, Ohio, knows what it’s like to fight cancer. He survived tonsil cancer in 2010 after surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, though the ordeal left him bedridden for a year.

In 2024, he faced something even more daunting: Stage 4 prostate cancer that had spread to his bones and lymph nodes. Doctors told him it was incurable and prescribed testosterone-blocking therapies like leuprolide injections and apalutamide pills. These treatments can cause rapid bone loss—up to 11% each year—raising the risk of fractures and disability.

Then Mr. Kramer discovered something unexpected: a new, experimental approach developed by a group of oncologists and published in the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine. Their paper, titled “Targeting the Mitochondrial-Stem Cell Connection in Cancer Treatment: A Hybrid Orthomolecular Protocol,” offered a bold theory. They suggested cancer might start with damaged mitochondria in stem cells—and that restoring their function could stop tumors in their tracks.

The Hybrid Orthomolecular Protocol

The protocol combined six main elements: a high-fat, low-carb ketogenic diet, moderate aerobic exercise three times a week, high-dose intravenous vitamin C three times a week, daily ivermectin, daily fenbendazole or mebendazole, and daily vitamins and minerals including D, K2, zinc, magnesium, and potassium. Blood tests every two weeks monitored nutrient levels and organ function to ensure safety.

Because the approach used repurposed generic drugs not approved for cancer treatment, U.S. doctors couldn’t formally supervise it. Clinical trials using old, off-patent drugs often lack industry funding and can take 10 to 20 years to launch.

It’s important to note that while Mr. Kramer reported no side effects over 15 weeks, there are potential risks and limitations to consider. For instance, the long-term effects of the high-dose intravenous vitamin C and the daily use of repurposed drugs like ivermectin and fenbendazole are not fully understood. However, the lead author, French researcher Pierrick Martinez, agreed to guide Mr. Kramer remotely.

A nurse practitioner administered the vitamin C infusions, and nutritionists helped manage the diet. Regular blood tests every two weeks monitored nutrient levels and organ function to ensure safety.

A Stunning Turnaround

At the end of the protocol, follow-up PET scans at AVITA Hospital found no evidence of cancer anywhere in Mr. Kramer’s body. The radiologist, expecting widespread disease, was stunned. Just months earlier, the cancer was considered unstoppable.

Even more striking, the full cost of the therapy—including all supplements, medications, and infusions—came to under $20,000. That’s far less than the monthly cost of many standard cancer treatments at major medical centers.

What It Could Mean

The Hybrid Orthomolecular Protocol wasn’t designed specifically for prostate cancer. It aims to target cancer more broadly, especially in patients whose immune systems have been weakened by previous chemotherapy or radiation.

For these patients, traditional cancer treatments may not be as effective, and the risk of cancer recurrence is higher. Yet Mr. Kramer’s case hints that this unconventional approach might offer real hope to patients with few other options. By restoring the function of damaged mitochondria in stem cells, the protocol could potentially boost the immune system’s ability to fight cancer, making it a promising option for these patients.

Looking Ahead

Was Jeffrey Kramer’s recovery a rare fluke—or proof that repurposed drugs like ivermectin and fenbendazole could become part of a new era in cancer care? It’s too soon to know for sure. What is clear is that the low cost, low risk, and potentially life-saving impact of this protocol make it worth studying.

With more support for clinical trials, this approach could someday offer a lifeline to countless patients who are told their cancer is “incurable.” If proven effective, the Hybrid Orthomolecular Protocol could significantly reduce the financial burden on patients and the healthcare system, making life-saving cancer treatments more accessible and affordable.
