The lipids themselves can also linger inside. Unlike specialized immune cells, most body cells don’t have the enzymes needed to quickly break down strange fats. This raises questions about whether leftover lipids could disrupt normal cell function.

What We Still Don’t Know

Even though LNPs have been studied for years, much about them remains uncertain. Their incredibly small size makes them difficult to study under even the most advanced microscopes.
