Principles of liberty

Dr. Robert Malone recently posted this as a “funny.”

It is, of course, but it is also deadly serious. I equate it to that fine statement coined by science fiction writer Eric Frank Russell in his story “And then there were none.”

Freedom = I won’t.

The fundamental right to say “NO!”

In modern decadent 21st Century America (and much of the world), we are told that “No means No!” when it comes to women being propositioned by men. But when you try to apply it to other situations, well, shucks, people do not believe that, apparently. Some examples:

  • Getting vaccines – for yourself or for your children. The AMA states that physicians can refuse to provide “routine health care” to someone who declines a vaccine. And the government-run, tax-funded schools can refuse to accept your child as a student if they are not “fully vaccinated.”
  • When it comes to paying taxes. You may object to mandatory financing of such things as that worthless public education/indoctrination (especially of other people’s children) or providing abortion or “gender-affirming care” but if you try NOT to pay…
  • Not mowing your grass enough, or planting the wrong kinds of plants, or flying the wrong flag, or a dozen other “violations” of land use codes administered by municipalities and homeowners associations.

There are, of course, many other times and places that you cannot say no – at least not without suffering serious (and wrong) consequences.

Does that mean we should not state “I will not consent” or “I won’t” when told (or even “asked”) to do something we believe is wrong? Of course not – though we need to recognize Jesus’ words of caution when it regarding a man demanding your cloak or a Judean being told by a Roman soldier to carry his pack for a mile. Sometimes, the consequences of not submitting can be far greater than we are willing to pay.

Especially if we are not adequately prepared to deal with the Karens, the Mrs. Grundies, the thugs and parasites.

Prepared? Being armed and making it clear that we will not be moved? Being willing and able to come to the assistance of others? And being part of a voluntary group, a frithguild if you would, willing and able to come to one another’s assistance? But especially, being mentally prepared to stand up against coercion, against the tyrants (big or small), and against public opinion.

(As an example of the problem with public opinion, consider the stories circulating about an Idaho congresscrittur who wants to see FedGov funding and spending cut drastically. He notes that Idaho gets back $1.19 from the FedGov for every dollar they have taken by DC, and don’t want the gravy train to stop. So his constituents tell him not to do the balance the budget/cut DC spending thing.)

It does indeed take a strong sense of a moral compass, a strong streak of moral courage, to say no. And sometimes physical courage as well. How many of us have that? And just as important, how many of us are willing to disciple ourselves and develop that courage?

Think on these things.
