On February 10th, Skip Boyce, a former construction business owner from Utah, said goodbye to his wife and daughter, walked into his bedroom, locked the door, and began his “Year of Isolation” project. He plans to remain there for a total of 365 days and livestream the entire experience on YouTube.

“The rules are simple: I do not leave the room, and the livestream remains active 24/7,” Boyce said. “I don’t bring in outside entertainment or unplanned interaction – everything that happens is visible to viewers. I live, sleep, work out, read, write, and spend my time entirely within a single room.”

Skip claims his room is physically separated from the rest of his house and that he has everything he needs to survive by himself. He has a bathroom complete with a shower and a bathtub, an improvised gym, some closets, and a streaming setup to broadcast his experience at all times.

“Livestreaming it removes the ability to quietly quit or rewrite the story later – it keeps the process honest,” the 49-year-old man claims.

As for why he came up with the idea of isolating himself from everyone, including his family, Skip Boyce said that it was to change his lifestyle for the better by forcing himself to avoid bad habits and incorporate healthier ones.

“This isn’t about shock value,“ Skip said. “I wanted to create a controlled environment to step away from constant stimulation, re-establish discipline, and rebuild habits around health, focus, and accountability. Stopping some of the bad habits I had has probably been easier than I expected, like stopping drinking Coke has been nice.”

Almost three weeks into his “Year of Isolation,” Skip claims that he has already seen positive changes in his lifestyle. He exercises more, has a healthier diet, and his mental health has improved considerably. However, not everyone believes this project will have a positive outcome.

“This is extremely unhealthy, and I hope this is a bit,” X user Sheev wrote. “You need sunlight. You need regular exercise. You need social interaction and fresh air. Is there a shower in that room? This is not healthy or productive at al,l and it’s going to make your physical and mental health plummet significantly. Do not do this.”

Others have warned Skip about the dangers of isolating himself for an entire year, but so far, he remains convinced that cutting himself off from the outside world until January 10, 2027, is the best thing for him.
