By paying a fee of $1.99 per minute, or $49.99 for 45 minutes of conversation with Jesus AI, users can have video calls with a digital avatar of Jesus Christ based on actor Jonathon Roumie’s portrayal of the Messiah on the TV show The Chosen.
On the Just Like Me website, the company clarifies that “Jesus AI is an artificial intelligence tool designed to offer comfort, encouragement, and timeless wisdom inspired by teachings of love, compassion, forgiveness, and personal growth. It is not Jesus Christ himself, nor does it possess divine authority.”
Although the company claims that the Jesus AI chatbot is designed to bring people closer to their god and allow them to connect with him on a personal level, the general feedback on social media has been negative. Most people see the idea of charging people $1.99 per minute to talk to a Bible-trained AI model as preying on the most gullible of Christians.
“This is evil. You can talk to the real Jesus for free whenever you want,” one person commented on X.
“1.99 a minute? Whew, getting my confessions in with Jesus also got hit by inflation,” someone else commented.
