Prostitution is not a job by choice. It is degradation by force of poverty and the inability to earn cash through any other decent means.
Many foreign women who once stood alongside their South African counterparts on the streets have fled, fearing xenophobic violence. Many foreign women in prostitution have been killed on the streets of Johannesburg.
Women who turn to prostitution must not be despised by society. They must be helped by society.
They are victims of injustice, unemployment, poverty and corruption. Society must support and rescue them from wasting away their lives trying to earn an income by selling their bodies.
Many are raped and trafficked, and some are used for rituals.
