Crimes against humanity targeting foreign nationals are still going on in South Africa. Four South African citizens have been arrested for allegedly looting foreign-owned shops in Witbank. The group is composed of three men and one woman.
They are engaging in scorched-earth tactics, destroying the foreigners they envy by bankrupting them through the looting of their tuckshops and their homes.
More than a dozen foreigners have been murdered in South Africa’s recent wave of xenophobic violence. Some were stabbed to death, some were stoned to death, and some were burned. Hundreds more have been injured in these attacks.
South Africa is the only place in Africa where someone can be killed for being a foreigner, or for being suspected of being one.
A 19-year-old victim, reportedly part of the looting mob, was shot dead by an unknown attacker who was opposed to the looting.
These South Africans looting and harassing foreigners for passports have failed morally, and must be restrained by the law. Every police officer must cease allowing or escorting mobs that harass people for passports and permits.
A Call to End the Vigilante Marches
Operation Dudula and the March and March movements must cease turning ordinary people into criminals by encouraging them into marches which end up in looting and the beating of innocent people. Only the Police and Immigration officials have the authority to demand passports and permits — not every Tom and Dick on the street.
