Ford rolls out Mustang Mach-E GT software-based performance upgrade
Ford has announced a very compelling offer for owners of the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT. For a very reasonable price of $995 before taxes, Mach-E GT owners could download a software-enabled performance upgrade for their all-electric crossover.
The software-enabled performance upgrade would provide the Mach-E GT with an extra 100 lb-ft of torque from its two electric motors. This improves the Mach-E GT’s 0-60 mph time from 3.8 seconds to 3.3 seconds. That’s quicker than the Tesla Model Y Performance’s 3.5-second 0-60 mph time, but slower than the Porsche Macan Turbo EV’s 3.1-second 0-60 mph time.
With the software-based performance upgrade in place, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT would see its total output improve to 480 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque. The upgrade should also help the Mustang Mach-E GT complete the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 114 mph. That’s as fast as a Mustang Shelby GT500, a Porsche Tacan Sport Turismo GTS, or an Audi RS6 Avant Performance (C7), as per carwow’s quarter-mile rankings.
Seemingly taking a page out of the Tesla playbook, Ford noted in a video explaining the Mach-E GT’s software-based upgrade that owners who wish to improve their vehicles’ performance could download the upgrade through the FordPass app. The upgrade could also be added as an option for new 2024 Mach-E GT units, as noted in an Autoblog report.
The capability to improve vehicle performance through over-the-air software updates is something that is unique to all-electric vehicles for now. Tesla started the trend with its Acceleration Boost upgrades for the Model 3 and Model Y, though the electric vehicle maker’s offer is more expensive at $2,000. With this in mind, Ford’s $995 performance boost for the Mach-E GT is pretty much bang-for-the-buck.
