Professorial "Advice" at Glendale Community College
Glendale, California (for all you UC Santa Cruz Community Studies and History of Consciousness majors) is a municipality a few miles outside of downtown Los Angeles. It seems that amid all the turmoil in LA this past week, an English professor at Glendale Community College (GCC) named Julie Gamberg has reportedly urged students to go downtown and participate in the protests, as well as “slow down and/or disrupt” the enforcement actions of ICE.
Campus Reform has the story. It features an X-posting by Sarah Fields.
As LAPD has stated over and over, protesting is fine. Rioting and law-breaking are not. To that, I will add that while protesting is fine, slowing down or disrupting the lawful actions of law enforcement are not. Seems to me that this activist professor is handing out bad advice to her students. If, God forbid, any of these students were injured or killed, imagine the lawsuits against GCC. In addition, if she is using a GCC server to communicate these messages to her students, that is not a legitimate use of GCC resources. It may not be illegal, per se, but the college would have every right to object.
But then, what can you expect when you hire professors with green hair?
