Holiday-hating Francesca Hong loses to David Crowley in Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial primary

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley narrowly upset Democratic socialist Francesca Hong in Wisconsin’s Democratic gubernatorial primary Tuesday night, despite polls showing Hong in front by double-digits in the final stretch before polling day.

Crowley’s campaign said the 37-year-old state legislator and member of the Democratic Socialists of America called Crowley early Wednesday to concede the race. Hong trailed her rival by more than 3,200 votes out of more than 787,000 ballots cast as of 6 a.m. ET., a margin of 0.41 percentage points.

Under Wisconsin law, Hong could have requested a recount since she trailed by under one percentage point, but would have had to pay for it since her deficit was greater than 0.25 percentage points. State law does not provide for automatic recounts in close races.

Crowley, 40, was the late choice of Wisconsin’s Democratic establishment after Lt. Gov Sara Rodriguez and her predecessor Mandela Barnes dropped out of the race in recent weeks. Crowley had initially dropped out and endorsed Rodriguez last month, but re-entered the race in an effort to stop Hong after Barnes quit.

But, will she change her mind and call for a recount? Her campaign will have to pay for it. For Crowley, he wants more and more and more government. More govt jobs and “investments” in jobs. He pretty much wants Medicare For All, ie, Single Payer. “Affordable housing”, ie, government building housing as well as dictating pricing. Climate (scam) action. Govt run childcare. Abortion for all.

In terms of so many of the wackos running as Democrats Crowley might be moderate, but, for everyone else, heck, he makes Bill Clinton look like a squishy Republican.

But the real story should not be how Hong lost. It should be how on earth she came so close to being the Democratic choice for Wisconsin in a very high turnout primary in such an important swing state. Like many DSA members, Hong has said she wants to abolish the police because law enforcement agencies “uphold white supremacy.” She’s also expressed discomfort at the fact her bi-racial son gives her a “proximity to whiteness.” She has supported the abolition of the Senate, supported public-owned grocery stores and banks, and opposed Valentine’s Day. In comparison to Hong, El-Sayed comes across as Obamaesque in his political professionalism. And yet she came within a whisker of being the Democratic nominee for governor in a state Donald Trump won twice. None of this means the party’s voters are returning to the establishment’s preferred path. No, it suggests that successful Democratic candidates are now the ones who bridge the gap between the hard and soft left of their party – as El-Sayed just about did in Michigan, and as the Ojibwe Native American activist Peggy Flanagan did in her Minnesota senate primary last night. Flanagan is not a DSA member, but she was the progressive choice – backed by Senator Bernie Sanders, the party’s elder socialist statesman. She won by 20 percent in a primary cycle dominated by debates about immigration enforcement. She is now the strong favorite to win against Michele Tafoya, the Republican former National Football League sideline reporter.

It’ll probably turn out that the younger, urbanite, “college educated” wackos voted for Hong, while the over 40 crowd, those without college degrees (or degrees in real disciplines), and live in the suburbs voted for Crowley, much like how they voted for El-Sayed. Speaking of him

(Free Beacon) Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed once declared his sacred “obligation” to follow Sharia law in every aspect of his life until he meets his maker on the day he dies, according to unearthed comments he made to the New York Times in 2009 as a young man buying his first home.

“Ultimately, the question is, when I die and I stand before God and go through everything I did in my life, I don’t want to say I did it the easy way instead of the Shariah-compliant way. Not because of fear but because of obligation,” said El-Sayed, who the Times identified at the time as a 24-year-old medical student and Rhodes scholar who had just taken out a “Sharia-compliant” mortgage to purchase a $123,000 condominium in Ann Arbor.

That was 2009. No one really thinks he’s gotten less moderate over time, do they?
