Dear Canadians: Listen to the great Victor Davis Hanson:

No, we don’t want Canada as a 51st state; yes, we want to trade with you; and yes, your Prime Minister is on a crazed personal vendetta that could destroy you.

Have you tried listening to Canadian podcasts? Once in a while, I do, and we can conclude that Trump Derangement Syndrome is alive and well north of the border. It’s comical, but it sadly represents what they are thinking up there.

The problem is that the Canadian political class is barking up the wrong trees. I agree that President Trump took the “51st state” joke too far, but the Canadian response is totally hysterical. As I told a Canadian friend, the President can’t add a state, and people who live in red states like me do not want another California in our Electoral College, i.e., two liberal Senators and 40-something House Democrats!

With respect to negotiating a trade deal, the Canadians have turned Trump into an impossible man to deal with, such as that silly objection that the US wants to kill French culture in Quebec. That’s crazy. Most Americans find Quebec lovely, and I love hearing a hockey goal call in French. What the heck is going on? PM Carney is nervous about the separatist movement in Quebec.

So, Canadians need to get Trump out of their heads and read what Professor Victor Davis Hanson said recently:

We did not say to Canada, you better let in 45% of your current population from foreign countries who were not born in Canada, or their parents weren’t born, and they’re not going to be assimilated and integrated in melting-pot fashion.

We did not say, forego all of the rich fossil fuels in your country. Stop pipelines to other provinces from Alberta, and stress green energy, solar power in frigid Canada, so to speak.

We did not say to you, craft your economy so, of all the 30-something industrial Western nations, you will have the least amount of per annum GDP growth.  We did not do it, much less Donald Trump.

He did not say to Canada, you can’t have the same familial GDP as we are. You have to be $30,000 to $40,000 poorer per person and per family than we are.   We didn’t say to the Canadians, who are a strongly moral and ethical people, you shall lead the world in assisted suicides — 5.1% of all your deaths, 19,000 people a year — ostensibly to save overwhelming healthcare costs for people who may be terminal because the economy doesn’t support that.

The economy doesn’t support open borders and the amount of immigrants who are coming in. The economy doesn’t support fulfilling your defense needs. The economy doesn’t support fair trade with the United States that’s symmetric.    But we didn’t do that. Your leaders did.

More specifically, your former PM Trudeau had a lot to do with it. Furthermore, the Trump administration negotiated deals with the EU, South Korea, Japan, and other strong economies. We hear that Mexico is happening soon.

So why not Canada? Because this is about PM Carney banging the drums of TDS for internal reasons.

Again, get over Trump and do negotiate.
