LISTEN: “Cool Water…Cool, Clear Water” — Via the Wayfaring Gal (7/28/2024)

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. (Isa 55:1)

Many times I remember songs from my childhood while I lived with my Mama during the 1960s. She introduced me to many different facets of music; from classical to country-western and everything in between.

The song below, Cool Water, is one of the old country-western ballads that I remember. What a great song of perseverance; or what the Bible calls “Importunity” in the New Testament:

Luke 11:5-10:

And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; (Luke 11:5)
For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? (Luke 11:6)
And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. (Luke 11:7)
I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. (Luke 11:8)
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. (Luke 11:9)
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. (Luke 11:10)

Never give up the search for the Truth of Life (John 14:6) and the Revelation of Jesus Christ (1Pet 1:13), which is why we are to walk the narrow way to be authentically born again. It is an imperative—that Jesus Himself commanded us to do—in order to spend eternity in heaven with Him.

Matt 7:13-14:

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (Matt 7:13)
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matt 7:14)

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. (Luke 13:24)

The promise of eternal life in heaven comes at the end of the narrow way walk—not before—and only after the revelation and judgment by Jesus.

I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me. (Ps 119:30)

It’s not something we do ourselves; but it will happen when the Lord decides, in due time, in it’s appointed time.

John 1:12-13:

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (John 1:12)
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:13)

John 3:3-8:

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3)
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? (John 3:4)
Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5)
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3:6)
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (John 3:7)
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (John 3:8)

After becoming a Christian in 1999, I started reading and studying the Bible with a real thirst for the truth. It was then that I realized “water” was oftentimes a code word for God’s Divine Agape Love.

There are a number of verses in both Old and New Testaments that show this truth (listed below after the video), which is another reason I chose this song:

OLD TESTAMENT:

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Ps 1:3)

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. (Ps 23:2)

As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. (Ps 42:1)

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; (Ps 63:1)

The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. (Prov 21:1)

As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. (Prov 25:25)

Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. (Isa 12:3)

When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. (Isa 41:17)

Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst. (Isa 50:2)

And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. (Isa 58:11)

O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters. (Jer 17:13)

Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil. (Ezek 16:9)

But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream. (Amos 5:24)

As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water. (Zech 9:11)

NEW TESTAMENT:

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (John 4:14)

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:38)

That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, (Eph 5:26)

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. (Heb 10:22)

For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. (Rev 7:17)

And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. (Rev 21:6)

And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. (Rev 22:1)

And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. (Rev 22:17)

So, the Scriptures tell us in a multitude of verses, our needfulness for water; i.e., God’s Divine Agape Love.

But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. (Luke 10:42)

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5)

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (Matt 5:6)

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. (John 6:35)
